  • Buy it here or there?

There are two electronic purchases I am considering: a Kindle (just the $79 basic one) and a new laptop.

The Kindle would be great for reading books and maybe get some cookbooks. It's probably slim-to-none for a chance of me finding books in English in the Czech Republic, so I'd probably only be able to get such books onto an e-reader.

My current netbook (a Dell Inspiron Duo tablet/netbook) is only a year old, but it's such a hassle. It has very slow processing speeds, my audio and video breaks up regularly (okay, maybe because I have a virtual CD-ROM of Microsoft Office 2007 on here hogging up space), my external optical drive only works a fraction of the time, there's no SD card reader, etc. Also, I'm beginning to dislike the small screen, after having done website work on laptops and desktops, but I liked its very portable size. I'm considering getting a normal-sized 14"ish laptop. Ideally Dell since that's what my family has, but I suppose I can be open to other options. Ideally under $600 completed.

I guess I'm debating on where/when to buy these for a few reasons. I know that electronics are more expensive in Europe, and there might be different electricity outputs or whatever (I do know about plugs being different). Also, I heard that there might be something different with internet, like for the Kindle.

These are just thoughts I have right now and I will do some research on my own, but I'd also like input from people, especially from those who are expatriates or those who live in Europe.

... Yeah, I made that title up. Random word for a random list post!

    1. So, somehow in my crazy computations, it seems that I actually made a profit from the buybacks - $150. It would take a long time to describe that process, but yeah. It's comforting that it wasn't a total flop, haha.

    2. I've got several dream catchers in various degrees of completion. I hope to have quite a few made this week so I can sell some on consignment at a local hippie-ish store and then some on my Etsy.

    3. I know that I've only had this netbook for one year, but it's caused me so many issues. The hard-drive, the functions of several buttons gone, the VERY slow processor, lack of a SD card slot, etc. I want to get a new laptop, but perhaps I should wait to get it when I'm abroad.

    4. Why is it so friggin hard to find patterns for simple mandarin-collar tops??? :(

    5. I really hate shopping for dresses or even for pretty skirts, and I need something for attending a wedding in less than a month. Oh, and I need to get a wedding gift. Shitttt

    6. I wish it was easy to let go of all the bitterness that I hold in my heart. Maybe I don't show it, but I can be - and am - a very bitter person.

    7. I just remembered that this coming Sunday my mother and I are going to a Kent-Dudince Sister Cities Slovak Club banquet. I went last year to get inspiration for my Honors Senior Capstone project. I'll try my best to get photos there again.

    8. Tomorrow I need to translate some German for Wednesday's lesson, and I'd like to do some exercises in my German grammar workbook. My motivation to keep up my work was when my tutor last week said that my pronunciation was really good, even with a few mistakes. She's optimistic and supportive, which is what I needed. She's definitely going to be what I will imitate when I am eventually teaching English.

First off I want to wish @miciqu a happy belated birthday! I can't wait to finally meet this Serbian darling in a few months!!! :)

Secondly, I think I was the only one to do stuff for my mother today for Mother's Day. I gave her a cute card from @Mrs_FoodLover's Etsy store (she loved it! thank you so much!) and a crystal bell from my college. I then made a really great lunch of Chicken Piccata (the chicken turned out perfectly juicy and wonderful!) and steamed carrots and linguine. My mother had to teach me how to cut the bone off the breast halves, but now I know next time I cook with chicken breasts like that :)

Now, the photos! These were all taken on my iPod Touch. I can't believe how many photos I've taken on this thing! It's funny because when I was shopping for an iPod Touch, I originally didn't want the camera since I didn't think I'd be using it :P It has definitely come in handy!

"Vintage Grey" by Petites. The ring finger has a coat of Essie's Pearlfection. Very subtle but I like it!

Such a lush and green area in my neighbourhood!

Love the Asiatic Lilies! :) I can't wait for them to flower (this is obviously just the stem)

I almost forgot I had this book!!! Now I need to make room for it in my boxes o' books to mail to Prague!

I grew up singing this song and playing it on an accordion. I'll have to record an audio of me singing this.

@fabolousclown sent me last year's Eid card :) Pretty! :) (Sorry I didn't take a pic of the postcard she also sent!)

Amalia sent me this pretty necklace :D I can't wait to wear it out! :D

My postcard stationary box containing postcards, envelopes, stamps, pens, and addresses of friends. Should I make more of these boxes to sell on Etsy maybe?

Sleepy Zlata in her pink blankie

     Rhododendron #1

Rhododendron #2, I think outside my window

     Rhododendron #3, some buds

     Gettin' my German on!

Awesome ceiling light-show at the hookah bar

@buddy71 sends me so many lovely peacock cards to me - here's a recent one :)

     Translating "The Reader", in progress

     Stormy clouds outside my window

Latest postcard from Croatian Pen Pal He went to Padova, Italy.

     @KnightInCROATIANarmor sent me a Serbian postcard!! :D

Got some Belgian love from @Zissu25 on his Euro-holiday!

Terribly unsuccessful craft show? Drink it away with wine... it works

This is the damage myself and three others accomplished. Then I still had a bottle of Yuengling afterwards. BOOYAH. I think The Pole and I did the most drinking, naturally ;D

  • Photo Dump, 12 May 2012

This is the first of TWO Photo Dumps. This post will feature photos from my camera, and tomorrow's will be photos from my iPod Touch.

     Easter Sunday manicure

Mani attempt before the one above

     Colouring Easter Eggies!

My natural hair... too messy to me so it's almost always straight

Always need a stupid face, this is my typical stupid face. Now I'm sure you wouldn't want to see this ugly mug at a swingers-style sex club (refer to an earlier Pulse today) :P

Snow in early April? YES PLEASE! :D Tree across my street

The big room for my church's Yard Sale

Every textbook buyback features some contest to win stuff. Sometimes it's shooting b-ball baskets, rolling a Yahtzee, etc. This one featured 'flying pigs' into a barn. That guy got it to stick to the velcro at the top of the door (velcro for adjusting door openness)

Nick and I affectionately called her the "bookstore bitch" for stealing his free books and sounding like a bitch to other people... we think she won't be hired again by the bookstore bahahaha

I didn't hang it up at my table for the craft show lol

I may be creative, but drawing is NOT a talent I have

     SUPERMOOOOOOOON

     SUPERMOOOOOOOON... again

Rhododendrons grow along the front of my house, and in front of my window

     My massive Langenscheidt German-English dictionary

Tomorrow's post is better I think. I hardly took photos on my camera-camera for some reason.

More photos of my craft show table will be on my Blogger, and I will provide its link as soon as that post is written.

Now to finish my can of Gnat's Piss (aka, cheap American beer) and write my mother a card. Tomorrow I get to make her Chicken Piccata for lunch :D
